Default Help!: How to flash a custom rom on Samsung Galaxy S

I have followed the instructions on this eHow page but I couldn't get them to work: How to Flash a Custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy S

When I reboot into recovery and install .zip file from my SD card I get an error message.

I am interested in getting the Darky Rom OR if anyone recommends a better rom which runs faster I would be happy to go with that. I am not sure what kernal to use because I don't really know what that is. =S

Also, I would prefer not having to use ODIN because I am running on a Mac OS X and I think there is only a Windows version (?). I was hoping there would be a simpler way to do it.

Oh, and my phone is already rooted, so I don't need to know how to do that.

I am really sick of lag and if anyone who is able to provide some clear concise instructions will get many thanks and rep!!! =D

Them instructions look really hard to follow. So you have followed all instructions, and still does work? I'm not sure what you can do, but you could reset the android back to factory settings.

Umm... Yeah so those instructions are rather vague and due to my technological "amateur-ness" (O.o) I require some more informative instructions than what is on eHow. Athough, they did teach me a bit about what I have to do.
Resetting my phone back to factory settings I don't think would help in any way because what I am trying to do is install a rom which contains different and better settings to the factory model.
    Thanks anyway.

If you're getting an error, it's because you're phone is already rooted and those factory files are needed for the new rom flash. You're gonna need to unroot your phone back to factory and then flash the new rom.
A lot easier said then done, I know, but that's what you're more than likely gonna need to do.
Using the phones option Factory Reset will not work. That only erases all user data. Your phone has to be 100% factory stock.
You can try Rom managers found in the android market as well. One of those "might" be able to help install your ROM. IF NOT, unroot and start over.

Hmm.. I did not know this! Thanks!
I do have the Rom Manager App and that is what I have used to try flash the rom. I was unaware that my phone needed to be un-rooted before I flash the rom. I have never seen this written anywhere... =/
Any ideas on how to un-root my phone? You said it was easier said than done, so, how do you do it? =D

Well ... did you use a root program or did u flash .zip your phone? Many programs that root your phone have an unroot option as well. If you used a .zip root then that's a lot harder.
If you have to flash unroot a .zip you used, you will need to find the stock rom for your phone in .sbf file format and rsdlite to flash your phone.
Not 100% sure about Mac OS or Samsung phones. I will find a link that can assist you more than I possibly could.

Find a program called SuperOneClick and that should unroot your phone. You can join the forums of the link I provided and get a lot more help than you can here on these forums.
    Goodluck.

I used a program called z4root if I recall correctly. I think I uninstalled it though but I'll just download it again.
