Whether you think it's forbidden or not, it is because you cannot pay for something that doesn't fit in the trade window.
It really depends on the case. Now if Person A were to see that Person B were in the guild chat saying that he found Bael and Person A told Person B that he would pay 50k for Person B to invite Person A to join the game, then both persons are at fault, which I assume is the case here.
I recall something years ago where people couldn't sell OEM XP on it's own but they could if they included a piece of computer hardware (almost any hardware, like a power cord).
I'd suggest yeARthe person doing the invite sell the invitee a useless item for a higher amount of gold than normal, but STS would probably find a clause that makes that against the rules too...
