Nerfing Mother points now would be a terrible idea. What about those that plan to start running after the nerf?
I don't think the speed of killing will affect the final leaderboard standing anyway. The event is 2 weeks long. And ties have always brought drama for many leaderboard runners, and people were getting thrown out of the leaderboards in the last day before too. If it happens again it will be nothing new.
