Happy Lunar New Year!
The festivities return this year with some updates as new as the year itself! Event runs from 1/16 to 2/6 with a 3 day cooldown.
BackstoryThe good people of Vardan Valley were all set to join the Lunar New Year festivities in Brackenridge when along came Kil'Joy the Goblin. Kil'Joy the Goblin, enemy of joy, a confirmed master of disguise, appeared to the villagers in the visage of a feeble old merchant driving an immense empty wagon. He drove is big rickety wagon to the center of town, interrupting the Mayor's 'Lunar New Year' address to the townsfolk (which is mostly about how to avoid injury on the long walk to Brackenridge).
Kil'Joy's illusory 'dying old man' begged the villagers to load their firecrackers and rat pets and red envelopes onto his wagon. He too was heading for Brackenridge to celebrate the new year. But he was alone. Lonely and unwanted. Without family. Without a purpose - this joyful celebration would surely be his last.
"Let me take part in your joy. Fill my wagon that I may help you on your journey. Please? Let my life have purpose... one last time," he groveled with tears welling up in his ancient eyes.
"Fine," said the Mayor. "That's just fine. You know it is a very long road and a whole lot to carry."
The smitty nodded sternly and bellowed, "Aye! Surely this good and wise old man isn't going to steal from us."
"Yes!" the tavern maid sung in agreement. "It's been nearly a full year since we've had even the slightest whiff of trouble. Let's do it!"
And so they did! The villagers of Vardan Valley loaded their wares upon the old man's wagon. Every egg, every envelope, every painted mask, every shining Arcanite vanity and shoved it aboard the old man's wagon. "See ya at the Tavern," the old man cackled as he drove off. "Happy New Year... suckers!"
It didn't take that long for the people of Vardan Valley to realize that they had been scammed. So they sent their Sheriff to track down Kil'Joy (and get help from Arlorian heroes if necessary).
What's New This Year
+Similar to other events this year, you'll need to grab a Kil'Joy Hunter's Elixir from Sheriff Qian for 5,000 gold for a chance to spawn Kil'Joy.
+ A limited number of Massive Crates of the Metal Rat will be available in the store, with a chance to loot new Arcane Weapons, the Arcane Armored Zhulong pet, and more!
+ Speaking of Arcane Weapons, the final weapons in the Death Engine set will be available during this event, including the daggers, rifle and aegis!
+ Some of the new pet eggs this year will be available in the store for a limited time.
+ Pearcy the Mythic Armored Rat's egg will be available Jan 17-19.
+ New Arcane Dragons: Armored Zhulong, Shenlong, and Fuzanglong's eggs will be available Jan 24-26 and again on Jan 31st - Feb 2.
+ All store eggs are limited quantities. Shenlong and Fuzanglong can only be purchased from the Store and will not be available as drops.
+ We've fixed a few bugs from last year, including Kil'Joy slaying low level players in a way that he really shouldn't be able to. His name is Kil'Joy, not Kil'Players.
Summary
+ The Lunar New Year Event will run for a festive three (3) weeks starting this Thursday! Get cool new vanity items, pets and more!
+ Sheriff Qian of Vardan Valley will appear in towns and ask for help tracking down Kil'Joy the Goblin.
+ Kil'Joy the Goblin stole all of Vardan Valley's items of celebration: masks, firecrackers, red envelopes and Rat Pets!
+ Seek out Kil'Joy the Goblin during the event and loot him for Red Envelopes and firecrackers, including two brand new styles: Fortune Fountain and Mythic Mortar
+ You can also complete Sheriff Qian's daily quest to find Kil'Joy to earn an additional ten (10) Red Envelopes.
+ You can spend your Red Envelopes to buy event items from the Sheriff. These include new vanity Dragon masks, firecrackers and Geng, Pearcy and Robbin Pets (not the eggs).
+ Higher level encounters with Kil'Joy mean a chance to loot more expensive fireworks, vanity dragon masks and rat pet (Geng, Robbin) eggs.
+ At Level 60 and above, Kil'Joy has a chance to drop the Locked Crate of the Metal Rat which contains Level 76 Arcane Death Engine weapons (including the new Aegis, Rifle and Daggers), Level 76 Mythic Lunar Rings, Mythic Rat Pearcy's Egg and Arcane Armored Zhulong's Egg.
+ Armored Zhulong is the newest Arcane Lunar New Year Dragon pet.
+ Pearcy is the new Mythic rat to celebrate the Year of the Rat!
+ Note: Level 71 Mythic Lunar Spirit rings can be looted from Level 60+ encounters with Kil'Joy (rare drop). Lunar Spirit rings in the Locked Chest of the Metal Rat are Level 76 (and have better stats).
+ During the Lunar New Year event a limited quantity of Massive Chests of the Metal Rat (3X Locked Zodiac Fortune loot) will be available in the Store.
