Cant use .apk download

On a fire hd10 tablet, its telling me to update (game was already on device, and had updated previously just fine through 10 updates over time) and a new version is available. When I try to use the provided download apk file, says it isnt installed. I rebooted device and uninstalled/reinstalled as well. Same thing, loads and tells me new update available
