Newbie question for an old gamer -_-

Guys whats the difference to be dps and damage stat? I hear the damage stat contributes to ability damage whereas dps is merely weapon dmg, not entirely sure myself and i've been here since AL release lol.

dps = damage per second

Damage controls the amount of damage skills do and stuff.
DPS is the amount of damage you pump out every second.
If you rely mostly on skills for damage (like I do with my sorcerer), you should probably aim for damage more than DPS.
If you have no idea what you're doing and you just want to spam the normal attack, go for DPS.
